Your first visit for Physiotherapy

jane creay
Jane Creasy - Head Receptionist

  • We will book your first appointment to suit your schedule. Early morning, after work or on Saturday.
  • We ask for you to arrive 10 minutes early to fill in a registration document and read thoroughly the consent to treatment form. We are of course bound by the Data Protection Act and all your personal details and medical records are completely confidential.
  • Your Physiotherapist will come to meet you at reception and show you to your treatment room.
  • Initially you will discuss with your Physiotherapist your reasons for visiting today. We will ask you many questions about the history of the condition, when it started, how it has progressed and how it is aggravated or relieved.
  • With your consent this will be followed by an extensive physical examination and you will be given a provisional clinical diagnosis (subsequently your diagnosis will be confirmed)
  • Your Physiotherapist will develop with you an appropriate treatment programme which will start at your first session. This will inform you of the techniques that may be used, how long it may take to get you better and how you can help yourself to recover in the shortest possible time. We believe in hands on therapy and only use electrical equipment if we feel it will speed the healing process.
  • During your treatment yourPhysiotherapist will educate you about your condition and we encourage you to ask as many questions as you wish. We feel that is important that you fully understand your condition.
  • We will also discuss and implement a personally designed rehabilitation programme of exercises for you to take away and use between treatments. We believe in working together to get you better as soon as possible.
  • Education about how to prevent a recurrence of your injury or condition will be incorporated into the treatment.
  • Should you need further treatments we will endeavour to book these at a time to suit your commitments and schedule
  • After your treatments you may feel sore and tired. This is quite normal and will usually settle within the next 24 to 48 hours. This is part of the healing process as the body reacts positively to treatment

What to bring

  • Normal dress is usually OK. Some clothing may need to be removed to treat you. Your personal privacy will be maintained at all times.
  • For subsequent gym rehabilitation work you may be asked to bring your training shoes, shorts and T-shirt and a small towel (not required for first visit).
  • Any referral letter from your GP or consultant.
  • Any reports, x-rays, letters etc relating to your injury.
