The Bowen Technique

As the fastest growing complementary therapy in the UK today, The Bowen Technique offers relief for a wide range of painful and stress-related conditions, usually with amazingly quick results. Significant improvements are often experienced after just one treatment with complete resolution of many complaints in as few as three or four sessions.

Bowen is a gentle, relaxing and highly effective hands-on therapy that works by stimulating the body’s own resources deeply and accurately. Using only light pressure, unique rolling movements are made over specific muscles, ligaments and tendons at key stress points of the body. These unique moves send impulses to the brain which encourage the body to switch off the stress response - 'fight or flight', increase blood flow into the area and revert the body to its natural healing state.

How can Bowen help?

Bowen is a very gentle therapy. It is suitable for adults and children of all age-groups, including new-born babies and the very elderly.  Due to its gentleness, there is no situation where The Bowen Technique cannot be used safely and to good effect.

The Bowen Technique does not just focus on the symptoms. Each Bowen session addresses the body as a whole seeking to treat and resolve the root cause of the problem. It affects the body in ways which promote healing, alignment, pain relief and recovery of energy. Many people use Bowen as an ongoing means of stress management and health maintenance.

All tension, postural and injury-based muscular and skeletal complaints can be addressed – in fact anything you may visit an osteopath or chiropractor for – without the need for force or hard tissue manipulation. As an excellent de-stressor, Bowen can be instrumental in boosting the immune system, addressing many inflammatory conditions and recurring infections and can also improve circulation, energy and lymphatic flow.

Treatment

During treatment, there are a series of short breaks, which allows the body to respond to the gentle moves; promoting the subtle and fine adjustments needed for re-balancing, tension relief and pain reduction. The Bowen Technique encourages the body to normalise and realign itself.

Where possible, the majority of work is conducted with a patient lying on a treatment table; however, when required, treatment can be adapted to treat seated, standing or lying on one side to suit individual patient conditions.

Benefits can include;

• Effective pain relief
• Reduction in stress & anxiety levels
• Increased energy levels
• A more positive, motivated and uplifted outlook
• Improved tolerance levels
• Improved sleep
• Boost to the immune system
• Total body re-alignment
