Nutritional Therapy Pre-Pregnancy

Nutritional Therapy is the application of nutrition science in the promotion of optimum health and peak performance.  The approach is to treat people as unique individuals and to work with them giving personalised nutritional and dietary advice, and recommendations to help achieve their health goals.

Nutritional Therapy is ideal for both mothers and fathers to help prepare for pregnancy and at all stages through to birth. Initially, good nutrition is vital for the development of a healthy egg and sperm.  Nutritional therapy helps to ensure that a balanced diet and the right nutrients are available so you have the energy and inclination to get pregnant and to give all the nutrients an embryo needs in those first few weeks when you might not even realise you are pregnant.

Pregnancy can be a time to bloom or a time of misery and illness.  Good nutrition may help in increasing the health of the mum during pregnancy, and in particular help with energy levels, stretch marks and morning sickness.  Research is also showing that a mother's health during pregnancy may contribute to the longterm health of her baby through its entire lifetime.

Ensuring mum to be is in good health is also vital for the birth. Did you know that a mother's bacteria can be transferred to the baby as it is born, so ensuring this is beneficial bacteria is vital and can help to set a healthy immune system for the child from the earliest possible moment.

The process of bearing a child and giving birth can be very draining of nutrients for the mother.  Managing the diet and nutrient levels may help prevent post-natal depression and speed recovery.

Infertility and subfertility can occur for many reasons and lack of nutrition can often be at the cause.   If nutrients are missing then the body's natural protective mechanism is to prevent pregnancy as a good nutrient source is required for both the male and the female in order for them to be able to produce healthy sperm and eggs and also to ensure that hormones are balanced.
